How The Ivy League Class of 2024 Has Shaped Up
The Ivy League’s overall admissions rates for the Class of 2024 show a bounce back from the previous year’s lows.
For example, Harvard’s 4.9 percent acceptance rate is a noticeable jump from last year’s 4.5 percent. Columbia jumped an entire percentage point from 5.1 to 6.1 this year as well.
Princeton bucked that trend though, with its 5.5 percent acceptance rate. For the Class of 2023, Princeton’s rate stood at 5.78 percent.

Of all eight Ivies, Dartmouth exhibited the largest acceptance rate increase – 8.8 percent this year vs 7.9 percent last year. Interestingly, The University of Pennsylvania and Yale also recorded noticeable loosening.
Penn increased to 8.07 percent vs last year’s 7.44 percent. Yale jumped to 6.54 percent this year vs last year’s 5.91 percent. Brown saw a modest rise this year at 6.9 percent vs last year’s 6.6 percent.
Why The Higher Acceptance Rates This Year?

It’s difficult to say for sure. However, with Ivies receiving fewer applications but needing to still fill class sizes, something had to give.
In this case, admissions officials loosened up the admissions rates across the board. The real test will be seeing how these higher rates will affect waiting lists, as well as actual attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Overall, the Ivy League is still difficult to get into for many students, but it’s becoming more attainable than in previous years. That’s definitely reflected in these Ivy League acceptance rate class of 2024 numbers.
