Here, I teach students how ignoring appositives can often help you quickly identify grammar errors on the SAT Writing section. Although I am known for showing students how to ignore prepositional phrases in order to identify grammar errors, the same type of thought process applies to non-essential appositives.
An appositive is a phrase that describes a noun it is next to. An appositive is usually separated from the sentence by commas. And the removal of the appositive typically does not detract from the grammatical correctness or message of the sentence. Watch the video below to learn more!
